We
had a small shock when we arrived in Fiji; our Hotel, the Warwick (no web site),
was 2 hours by coach from the airport and it was nearly 3am (Fiji time), before
we got there. The hotel, like many of the hotels in Fiji, is on the south coast
of the main island Viti Levu; an area called the Coral Coast. On our first day
there we got up late and spent the day swimming and schnorkelling in the lagoon.
There is a coral reef that runs along most of the Coral Coast and provides a
really safe swimming area along the beach fronts of all the hotels. We spent
quite a lot of our stay in Fiji within the Hotel, which provided most things
that anyone could want for a holiday.
On the first evening there was a firewalking demonstration in the hotel grounds and on the second evening, we went to a barbecue with entertainment provided by a local dance troupe.
On
the third day, we took a sea trip by schooner from Port Denerau (back near the
airport), to a real desert island. This was a fabulous day out and was my personal
'best day'. Once at the island we had a guided schnorkel tour, a trip in a glass
bottomed boat, canoeing, volleyball and various other entertainments provided
by the company, (Captain Cook Cruises), they also provided lunch and free drinks
all day for an incredibly low price. Our final day in Fiji was spent around
the hotel again until our evening flight to Los Angeles
and the start of our journey home.
